Charlie Blackmon and the Rockies aren’t the only ones having an opening day in LoDo this year. The long-awaited, much anticipated McGregor Square is planning on having a few home runs of its own. And its grand opening only a few months away! The nearly 700,000 square foot development will host two 13-story buildings nestled right next to Coors Field.
Entertainment
The new development brings exciting new options to 20th street. This includes restaurants, bars, hotels, office space, condos, and new innovative entertainment from TopGolf. TopGolf has already been wildly popular with locations in Thornton and Centennial. It was quite a creative endeavor to bring their suburban driving ranges to the boujee Mile High City.
Enter TopGolf Swing Suite, which pairs cutting-edge VR technology with the playful and competitive environment that TopGolf is known for. Players engage in virtual golf games, quarterback passing challenges, and more creative VR games like Zombie Apocalypse Dodgeball.
Atop the tower on the corner of 19th and Wynkoop will be Tom’s Watch Bar. More than just a standard sport bar that can be found anywhere in Denver, Tom’s will feature a 360-degree viewing room with screens in every direction you look. In total, expect 155 large screen TVs at Tom’s. They will feature just about any live sports game you can think of, including “emerging, obscure, and outrageous sports.” Think of a sports bar that features the NFL and NBA alongside the hidden gems only found on ESPN 8: The Ocho. Tom’s will do quite well with Denver’s hip scene.
Tom’s Watch Bar will also be taking advantage of its unique elevation across Coors Field. The bar will have an outdoor deck with 230 seats, providing a unique viewpoint of the old ball game.
Further out in 2022, McGregor Square will also be home to the Colorado Rockies Baseball Hall of Fame. LoDo legends like the Big Cat, the Toddfather, Ubaldo Jimenez, and Larry Walker will be immortalized as Rocktober legends.
Eat & Drink
Replenish yourself after chucking rubber balls at zombies, and head on over to Milepost Zero food hall. The food hall will be located at the corner of 19th and Wazee, and house seven concept eateries. This will be Denver’s new battleground for competing culinary trends and hipster food bloggers alike.
Should you prefer a more established cuisine experience, look no further than The Original. The Original is a collaboration between Wazee restaurateurs of The Urban Farmer and Poka Lola. The opening date for the Original is on March 28. It serves American classics with an “original” twist. They have yet to release their full menu, but their Croughnut Sliders are generating a lot of curiosity on social media. The mixologists behind the Poka Loka are bringing their creative libations to The Original, promising that “each drink will have a story to tell.”
Live Entertainment
Remember when live entrainment used to be a thing? When life returns to normal, which will hopefully be sooner rather than later, McGregor Square will have a small outdoor venue, which has the working title of “content plaza.” The 25,000 square foot plaza will include a grass berm similar to that of Fiddler’s Green. True to its name, Content Plaza will have a giant multimedia screen making it a great venue for local artists and future World Cup viewings. When the weather starts to chill after baseball season, the plaza will be converted into an ice rink.
While the Rockies will have to clear out their lockers every fall, McGregor Square will be an entertainment hub 365 days a year.
