[Continued from 10 Ways to Make Home Organization Look Good – Pt 1 ]
Welcome back to the second half of our tips on how to keep your home organized and beautiful at the same time. Last time, we talked about color-coding, cubes, glass bottles, labels, and cabinet arrangement. Join us again today as we pick up where we left off in terms of home organization:
6) Baskets & Cloth Organizers for Home Organization
One of the biggest problems in home organization is counter clutter. All your toiletries in the bathroom, all your most-used spices and tools in the kitchen. You may want these things in the open and on-hand, but you don’t want them spread willy nilly over the counter surface.
The answer to this common conundrum is the simple organizer. A shallow basket or a cloth organizer can completely transform the appearance and organization of your cluttered shelves, drawers, and countertops. Simply by arranging the same items inside squared containers, everything will look neater and the dreaded ‘spread’ cannot occur.
7) Carved Boxes & Glass Cups
Along the same lines, little carved boxes have been a popular organization strategy for hundreds of years. For any personal items you’d like to keep in a ‘kit’, like your shaving supplies or your favorite jewelry, a little carved box can be the perfect decorative and organizational solution.
For items on your counter that are attractive but don’t have their own sorting category, clear drinking glasses have been known to make a lovely storage container. Your watch an rings, for example, can live in a cup being decorative when not worn. Or a collection of pretty hair clips that look nice arranged on the edge of a wine glass.
8) Hanging Closet Shelves
Don’t have enough shelf space, or room to put your clothes? One of the best home organization tools is a hanging closet organizer. These are essentially cloth-and-support shelves that hang from your clothes rod instead of taking up real floor space. This gives you a place to put your folded clothes like socks and underwear, among other dressing room things, even if you don’t have room to place a dresser. It also looks quite nice hanging inside your closet adding a new aspect of vertical organization to the room.
9) Shelving Curtains
Need to fill a shelf with useful but unattractive things? We’ve got a solution for that, too. Not everything stored in your home can be aesthetic on its own. Whether you’ve got a shelf of tools, craft supplies, or random stuff that isn’t that decorative, the solution is simply to hang a curtain over it.
Most home residents don’t think of curtains because you can’t hang new rod mounts. But you can tack a curtain or mount on top of your own bookshelf. A bookshelf with a curtain can look elegant or fun depending on your style (and the curtain you choose) while hiding the unsightly-yet-organized items stowed on the shelves.
10) Broom Closet Rack
There’s even a quick solution to make your broom closet less messy. All you need is a clamp rack that fits along the inside wall of your broom closet. These clamp racks are made up of a row of pull-away clams that will hold up the weight of a broom, dustpan, or even a wet mop. It can effectively keep all your broom closet items in a straight line stuck to the wall instead of tumbling all over the floor.
In fact, if you don’t have a broom closet, a single hanging rack can ensure that your cleaning supplies looks tidy and you never trip over your own broom again.
