Denver Dining
Just how incredible is Denver’s restaurant and bar scene? It’s a foodie’s dream, with everything from farm-to-table American and Asian fusion to woodfire pizza, artisan coffees, and small-batch ice cream. Home to an ever-expanding list of craft breweries, Denver has been deemed “the Napa Valley of Beer.”
2018 has already seen an array of incredible new dining options. Just a few of our favorites are here, with a number of highly anticipated openings and more to come by year’s end.
- Bang Up to the Elephant! Restauranteur Kevin Delk’s latest hotspot features Caribbean beach shack fare with African, Chinese, Indian and South American influences. Unique specialty dishes include the mofongo (fried plantains with sweet and spicy peppers and a spiced rum sauce), jackfruit roti and a selection of bowls, wings, and curries. Diners will enjoy live music amid over 800 tropical plants and an eight-foot fountain complete with wind-up fish. Kick back with one of their tropical cocktails like the Nose Ender (tequila, cream of coconut, lime, serrano pepper, served in a Thai coconut!). That crazy name? It’s a Victorian saying meaning “done properly”. Open daily 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, brunch Sat. and Sun. 9:00 to 3:00. 1310 Pearl Street.
- Chubby Cattle. Now for something completely different! You may be familiar with Chinese hot pot—a sort of Chinese fondue—but Chubby Cattle has upped the game with its innovative service. Mongolian, Tibetan, and Chinese hot pot ingredients are ordered via iPad and delivered to hungry diners on a refrigerated conveyor belt. Choose your broth – choices range from Beautiful Tomato to Hellishly Spicy. Next, grab your add-ins: veggies from bok choy to pumpkin, proteins meat, seafood and tofu, sauces (soy, chili, hoisin) and a variety of noodles. An automated train delivers hot dishes such as Beef Fried Rice and Scallion Pancakes right to your table. The Denver restaurant joins the original Chubby Cattle in Las Vegas, soon to expand to 10 other locations in the U.S. Open 5 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. 2 Broadway.
- Tap Fourteen Colorado Beer Garden. You’ll find 70 Colorado craft beers on tap and the largest selection of Colorado spirits in Denver. Ready to try something special? Tap 14’s drink menu features nine signature cocktails; try the Moonlight Espresso Martini or the Mountain Mojito. Enjoy the great view of the Denver skyline around one of the four fire pits on two large patios. Tap 14’s self-described “American Alpine Fare” features locally sourced ingredients in fabulous dishes like the Colorado trout with chickpea puree. The menu includes a variety of salads, burgers, and sandwiches like Beer Cheddar Grilled Cheese. Weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. feature brunch specialties like the frittata with goat cheese, house cured bacon and grilled pretzel toast. Open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday. 400 E. 19th Street. Are you headed to the Rockies game? Stop off at Tap Fourteen Ballpark, just a half block from Coors Field at 1920 Blake Street. The Ballpark menu features tacos, wings, and burgers ( lamb, beef, chorizo or veggie). As well as breakfast sandwiches and burritos.
- Delhi Darbar. Are you craving authentic Indian cuisine? Opened in January 2018, Delhi Darbar has an extensive menu that includes all the traditional options: curries, tikka masalas, vindaloos, and tandoori grill specialties. Fresh naan comes plain, garlic or stuffed with onion or lamb. Lunch buffet 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. To-go orders are also available. Open daily 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. 100 E. 20th Ave.
